Research Ethics Committee

Scientific research about human beings, other life forms, or cultural heritage items must meet strong ethical requirements. The Faculty's Research Ethics Committee guarantees that ethical challenges are identified, that there are plans how to deal with ethical risks, and that our research takes place according to ethical norms and standards.

The committee can provide official ethical approvals to Faculty members for scheduled research projects, if an approval is needed and can be issued. The Faculty does not make an approval mandatory; researchers are able to decide by themselves, if they want to apply.

The committee consists of seven members who are experienced in empirical and other methods applied at the Faculty. They can assess ethical challenges regarding these methods. Especially represented are ethnographical and field research methods, experiments, and polls.

The committee members are:

  • Prof. Dr. Dr. Claus Beisbart
  • Dr. Francesca Falk
  • Prof. Dr. Albert Hafner
  • Prof. Dr. Erez Levon
  • Prof. Dr. Michaela Schäuble
  • Dr. Yvonne Schweizer
  • Prof. Dr. Sabine Strasser
