The Master (mono) program in Latin American Studies has three components: the core component (40 credits), the profile component (44 credits) and the Master’s degree (36 credits).
1. Core component (40 credits)
The core component consists of four modules: History, Spanish Language and Literature, Social Anthropology and Musicology/Anthropology. The core component area is compulsory for all students of the Master Mono Latin American Studies. Each of the four modules includes a lecture (3 credits) and a seminar (7 credits). For the mono variant of the master study program, the oral and written mastery of Spanish is required (DELE C1). All courses in Linguistics and Literature are conducted in Spanish, as are the examinations.
2. Profile component (44 credits)
The profile component or compulsory options consist of a range of different courses and modules put together by the Program Commission from which students can choose freely. In addition to the optional courses, students must also complete a seminar paper in one of the three modules. The examination on the interdisciplinary bibliography is also a compulsory part of the profile component. Students may complete an internship with the authorization of the commission.
3. Master’s degree (36 credits):
The master’s degree is made up of the master thesis (30 credits) and the Master’s Colloquium in Global Studies (CGS). (6 credits).
