The Master's Major in Studies of the Middle East and Muslim Societies (90 ECTS) enables students to pursue in-depth specialisation in the subject area and provides systematic methodological and linguistic training. The programme comprises kick-off days, advanced and reflection modules, modules in Arabic as a working and research language, advanced study of a second language, a subject-related elective area, the module Application-Oriented Learning and Working Methods, and the Master's thesis (30 ECTS). There is also the option of completing an integrated semester abroad.
The modules build on each other in terms of content and methodology and combine seminar-based teaching with independent project and research work. In the course of their studies, students increasingly develop their own thematic focus and apply their analytical and linguistic skills to questions they have chosen themselves. The module Application-oriented learning and working methods complements the subject-specific training with practical working methods and cooperative project formats.
The programme concludes with a Master's thesis in which an independent scientific question is explored in depth.
